Ski Season Banquet

It was almost a month ago, but we did wrap up the ski season with a fabulous banquet at the Chateau Lake Louise. After some head to head racing with teammate against teammate and kids against parents (that image in the paper may just be from the race where Sarah beat her Dad...) we all headed to the beautiful hotel for a silent auction, a feast, and presentations from the coaches.

Some photos from the evening:

Some of the silent auction items that caught Sarah's eye. She took several pictures of these, but didn't bid on them.

This is Cleodie, one of Sarah's teammates, with Brody, Sarah's coach's son. The next day, Cleodie hit a bump funny on Easy Street and fractured her T-6 and T-8. She is recovering well and has kept in good spirits, but it was a tough way to end the ski season.

Coach Higgy, joked freely with (and about) each of the kids on the K1 team.

Alison joined her coach and this group half way through the season, and improved significantly.

Look Who is in the Paper!

The Banff Crag and Canyon did a little write-up about the end of the ski club season and included a couple of photos. The lead photo is of a 16 year old girl whose name they've misspelled, and there's another uncaptioned photo of a skier we'll all recognize - Sarah!

Here's the screencap:

The reality is we are still skiing with the club this weekend, and possibly up until May 10. I still haven't uploaded our banquet pictures from the weekend, but since I'm home sick today, guess I can get on that. Stay tuned!

Flying around the Lake

We just received these photos from Sarah's coach. His email said:

Here's a few pics of your little girl flying around the Lake.

K1 Finals in Panorama

This past weekend was the last race of the season. It was held at Panorama, BC, where friends of ours have a condo and graciously invited us to stay. As it was part of our spring break, we had a couple of extra days to just hang out and even free ski with Sarah.

The race course was incredibly icy, just like it will be when Sarah skis in the future. Once again, Sarah's best event was the slalom, where she finished 24th. Her friend Emily was first overall and made Team Canada for the Whistler Cup next month. We'll be cheering her on!

Update: Mooke's blog

Alison has posted on her blog. For her readers who have been waiting an extraordinarily long time for an update, you will find her post extremely familiar if you read my tribute to Rustle's birthday....

The never-ending cycle

Just as ski season is beginning to wind down (Tuesday and Thursday night training is no longer possible at Canada Olympic Park), soccer season is getting underway. No rest for weary (or wicked) moms....

Happy Birthday, Rustle

Rustle turned four on Friday, and Alison made him a beautiful doggie cake to celebrate. He devoured it immediately and shared none of it with the rest of us, but we're okay with that.

The latest race

At Sunshine, where there was less than 5 minutes of sun all weekend, Sarah improved her Giant Slalom performance, with finishes in the top 30 again. She's going to need to set new goals.....

The cloudy course...

The girls' Lake Louise team, minus one. Aren't they cute?

Revelstoke

We had a fabulous weekend in Revelstoke. The Western Championships were a great experience. Sarah finished every race and had only one disappointment when she slipped and had to hike back up to a gate. Unfortunately, too many people were shouting instructions at her, which was all very confusing, but she made it down, and then had a great second run. So - a learning experience!

I'm exhausted - Revelstoke is a 5 hour drive away, and since Bob was out of town, it was me, 6 pairs of skis, two kids and a dog. The skis were probably the most helpful items I brought along, at least until Bob joined us the 2nd night. These are photos another parent sent to me as Sarah still hasn't unpacked her camera from her ski bag!

Racing fans, grabbing the best seats in the house to watch the ladies' race.

Sarah's last race was through pea soup. That really is her coming down!

Sarah's teammate, Emily, won the overall ladies' championship medal. She's a great kid, with a fabulous smile, and is an incredibly supportive teammate.
